Sunset Alegria Cruise to Benagil Cave and Praia da Marinha
The tours start at Club Naval Portimão (Alegria) / Convento S. Francisco (Faraway) and take you past the large Ponta do Altar lighthouse, then along the beaches of Torrado and Caneiros.
Passing the beaches of Afurada and Mato, you’ll then see the historic landmark, Torre de Lapa. Since the 17th century, men from the neighborhood took turns keeping watch there, always keeping an eye on the ships of the corsairs, who mostly came from North Africa. In case of danger, a bell was rung up there, smoke signals were sent, or a fire was lit at night so that the inhabitants had time to bring their belongings and their lives to safety.
Our journey continues along the coast, where you’ll find several caves, Praia dos Três Castelos, and Praia do Paraíso. Then you’ll discover the old fishing village of Carvoeiro and its beach.
Next come Algar Seco, Praia de Vale Covo, and more caves before we reach our main destination, the Benagil Cave.
By law, boats are only allowed to stay in the cave for a few minutes, and we must line up in the queue beforehand.
Immediately after leaving Benagil, the Alegria will anchor at a safe distance from the coast for a 10-minute swim stop, giving you the opportunity to swim in the Atlantic for 10 minutes. Please prepare for this in advance so that you can enjoy the full 10 minutes.
